Thomas Oltarzewski is a Philadelphia based composer and is currently the Department of Performance Studies Fellow at the Curtis Institute of Music. He is a recent graduate of the Curtis Institute with a diploma in composition, and also holds a B.M. in music theory and composition from Montclair State University. His music has been performed by numerous large ensembles, including the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and the Montclair State University Wind Ensemble and University Singers, as well as by chamber groups, including performances on Curtis's Student Recital Series and with the PRISM Saxophone Quartet in Philadelphia and New York City. Thomas was the recipient of the 2013 Costello Award and Commission from the Lyra society, which involved the commissioning of a new work featuring the harp, and served as Young Composer in Residence at Music From Angel Fire in the summer of 2013, where he worked with local elementary and secondary school students in addition to numerous performances, including the premiere of a new work for wind quintet. In addition, several of his chamber compositions have achieved distinction as winners of the New Jersey Arts Collective’s Pictures competitions. His  teachers have included Jennifer Higdon, David Ludwig, Joseph Turrin and Robert Aldridge. He is a member of ASCAP and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
